Lakeland-based web design firm Voorhees Design has hired 10 new designers to its team and has opened a new office in the Lakeland neighborhood.
VoorHEES is one of the first major companies to expand its work from its original location in Tampa, Fla., which has been open for about a decade, to a new, larger location in the city, the company said.
VOA’s Jim Smith reports from Lakeland.
Vora and Raul Rodriguez opened the new office last week in the Riverwalk neighborhood.
“I think we are just beginning to take our brand to a larger audience and that’s really the big goal,” VoorHees CEO Raul Rios said.
“Lakeland is a great location and we are very excited to expand our team here.”
The company, which has offices in Tampa and Orlando, has worked with local companies to produce high-end design and advertising materials for companies such as Amazon, Target, McDonald’s and Nike.
“We’re a young company and we’re not just a bunch of designers,” Rios told VOA.
“When you start with 10 people, you have to take on the responsibility of managing a team.
It’s a huge job.”
The new team, which includes designers from several Florida cities, includes four new hires: Brian Johnson, a 20-year veteran of the company; Mike Kastor, a recent graduate of the Florida International University, and John Azzariti, a 21-year Voor HEES veteran who’s now in the process of starting his career at Voor.
Johnson said he’s excited about the company’s growth.
“As I look around this city, I see an explosion of new businesses,” he said.
Johnson is a product designer at Vora Design, a company that specializes in graphic design and print.
“The most important thing is to be creative, to find the right balance,” he added.
Johnson, who grew up in Tampa but has lived in Miami since 2008, said his favorite part of being in Florida was that there are lots of things that are different and different kinds of companies and people.
He said he enjoys the climate, the weather, the food and the people.
“It’s a really great place to work,” he explained.
Johnson also appreciates the proximity to his home and said he doesn’t miss the people in Lakeland and Orlando.
“My favorite part about working here is that there’s an awesome community, and I feel like I’ve had a really good community here,” he told Vora.
“This is my hometown, and it’s a great place for me to work.”
Rodriguez added, “I’m so excited about being able to bring my expertise to the brand and the industry.”
Johnson said that, as a freelancer, he doesn, as well as other local employees, have access to a full-time job.
He added, however, that his first goal is to bring a high-quality design and marketing product to Lakeland as soon as possible.
“Our customers need that type of quality to sell their products,” he noted.
“That’s what I love to do.
I think it’s just the right time.”
Voor Hees is based in Lakewood, Fla.
and the company employs about 70 people, and has a strong focus on design and development of quality products and services, said Voor hees CEO Scott Stapleton.
The company recently launched its online portfolio to provide customers with visual design advice and services.
“What we do really is we are creating a portfolio of designs and content that can be shared online and through email to a broad audience,” Staplet said.
The website has a “visual design” section that lets users browse the company and see other products and service providers.
“There’s a lot of great people in this industry,” Stapplet added.
Voda has about 4,000 employees worldwide and employs around 3,000 people in the United States, according to its website.
The brand, which also includes the company VoorAway and VoorWeb, was founded in 2011 and has offices across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
